Day 10 NATURE CONVERSATIONS

GRASS
24 All flesh is like grass  and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers,  and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.
1 Peter 1:24-25
For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. James 1:11

Nature Conversation

It is mowing season! Are you excited? Maybe some people are excited, but for some it is a chore that consumes these coming weeks. Here we mow for a few months, then in the heat of the summer and with less rain, the grass grows less. It is scorched by the sun and begins to wither (unless you make the effort to water it). Then the season changes and the grass is no longer growing. So, as we go to mow our yards and enlist the help of our kids with all the yard work, we can remind them of some spiritual truths - our lives are as fleeting as the grass. It is only a season. Therefore, we should fix our eyes on the eternal rather than temporary.

Nature Journaling

  • Get outside in the grass. Studies show that being in green space is healthy.
  • Notice different types of grass or weeds or plants growing near you. Collect different types to press in your notebook.
  • Grass art - chalk drawings or painting.

Nature Study

  • Learn about weeds, fertilizer, and yard care.
  • Experiment/Observe your yard: How much sun is needed for grass to grow? How much water is needed? How do weeds spread? Are there shaded spots where grass doesn't grow well? What can you do improve your grass or other plants in your yard?
  • Observe the insect life in your yard. How does this affect your grass?
