STARS - CONSTELLATIONS

31“Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades or loose the cords of Orion?

My daughters made Orion on the bulletin
board out of tacks and rubberbands.

32 Can you lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season, or can you guide the Bear

with its children?

33 Do you know the ordinances of the heavens?

   Can you establish their rule on the earth?  

Job 38:31-33

God created the stars. The constellations are mentioned here in Job as well as a few other places in Scripture. In the Job passage, it is God speaking to Job. In many of the passages about nature, it is man recognizing God's creation and His power in creating. Here, though, God Himself tells of what He has done. He is far above creation and no one can replicate His works. I encourage you to read through Job 38-42, as God recounts to Job so many aspects of His work.

NATURE CONVERSATION

Discuss with your children the difference between astronomy and astrology. As Christians, we study the stars differently than the world - with the intent of recognizing the Creator and giving Him glory.

NATURE JOURNALING

• Read Psalm 8 or other Scripture.
• Spend time under the stars. Identify any constellations or planets that you know.  
• Record in your journal anything interesting - a shooting star, meteor shower, etc.
• Write how you feel after looking at the stars.

NATURE STUDY

Identifying the constellations can be tough. Our guide at the planetarium joked that all the constellations look like a kite. Pick a few that are easier to identify, such as Orion or the Big Dipper, also called Ursa Major.
