Day 11 - NATURE CONVERSATION

RAIN
Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime;
   it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms.
He gives showers of rain to all people,
   and plants of the field to everyone.

Zechariah 10:1 NIV

Nature Conversation

Rain, rain, go away, come again another day. We may feel like that on rainy days, but do we really want no rain? Of course not! A few years ago, we were in such a drought. Then, two springs ago we had almost eighty days of the season with rain. Talk to your kids about why we need rain. Worship God as the one who brings rain, who alone controls the weather.

Bonus Scripture: 1 Kings 17-18

Nature Journaling

  • Observe the rain.  Take note of the types of clouds.
  • Make weather predictions based on clouds, wind, temperature, barometric pressure.
  • Write a song or poem to reflect the weather.
  • Observe the effects of the rain. For us, that means going down to the neighborhood ditch a few doors down to see what the water rise, to see if there are any creatures coming out.  Also, what has sprouted in the garden or what plants have seemed to shoot up overnight?
  • A quick search on the internet and there are all kinds of weather craft ideas.  If that is your thing, go for it.  However, I won't recommend anything particular because sometimes crafts take away from observing nature and keeping things simple.

Nature Study

Check out my unit study on the water cycle.
Warning: The water cycle song WILL get stuck in your head, but it's a great way to get the information into the brains of your kids.
